YOUR HOST: JOSE LUIS “MOZO” VIDAL

José Luis Vidal, known as “Mozo”, is the founder of this thrilling experience. With over 20 years of continuous exploration and dedication, he has hunted in the most productive areas for pigeon shooting across South America. His work culminated in the creation of Pigeon-Palace Lodge in 2011, located in one of the world’s densest pigeon concentrations—right in the center of the triangle formed by Bolivia, Argentina, and Paraguay.

Experience That Shaped a Legacy

Herland Von Sneider, a world-renowned tour operator and pioneer in dove hunting across Colombia and Bolivia, dedicated several years to exploring the best hunting grounds in South America. His deep knowledge and passion for the sport served as inspiration and mentorship for José Luis Vidal, known as “Mozo”.

Under Von Sneider’s guidance, Mozo developed his skills and understanding of the migratory pigeons of the Chaco region. Through years of exploration and observation, Mozo eventually identified the Bolivian Chiquitania as the ideal location—where agriculture, natural habitat, and wildlife behavior converge to create one of the richest pigeon hunting environments in the world.

THE PIGEON: A STRATEGIC CHALLENGE

The wild migratory pigeon requires very specific environmental conditions—conditions that the Chiquitano forest offers better than any other region. Nearby areas of the Bolivian and Paraguayan Chaco, with their dry forests and scarce resources, force pigeons to travel long distances for food, water, and shelter.

In contrast, the Chiquitania provides:

  • Dense natural forests for roosting
  • Rivers and lakes for hydration
  • Mennonite farmland with abundant food supply (corn, sorghum, soybeans, and sunflowers.

This unique ecosystem supports one of the most impressive pigeon populations in the world, making it a hunter’s paradise and a pest control solution for local farmers who suffer up to 40% crop loss.

Pigeons are intelligent and learn to associate the sound of gunfire with danger. That’s why we rotate hunting fields daily, using specialized decoys and expert guides to maximize your success.
